Dr. Kara Werner, DC, female chiropractor in Portland, Oregon

Before an adjustment, there is a relationship. Before a plan, there is time to listen.

In 2003, Dr. Kara graduated cum laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic West in San Jose, California. She went on to serve the San Francisco Bay Area for seven years, founding Monarch Chiropractic and Integrative Health Center.

Sports therapy was her starting point, working with elite Ironman athletes and weekend warriors alike. Caring for women during pregnancy became another meaningful part of her work, leading to further studies through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

After moving to Portland, Kara welcomed two home-birthed babies and stepped away from practice to raise them. Motherhood added lived experience to her education, deepening her appreciation for how personal each season of change can be.

With her youngest in school, Kara reopened Monarch in Southeast Portland. She was named one of Portland Monthly’s Top Doctors in 2024, 2025 and 2026, and continues to bring a learner’s curiosity to the people she cares for.

The heart of our care

Come as you are. You’re welcome here.

01

Presence comes first

Care begins with our full attention. We listen to what you share and what you feel before offering an exam or adjustment.

02

Trust through choice

We explain the work and welcome your questions. Gentle techniques, honest conversation and your consent keep you involved at every step.

03

An open conversation

Most major insurance plans, prepaid self-pay packages and hardship options offer different paths to care. Let’s talk about what works for you.

04

Received as you are

There is no one way to be in a body. Women’s comfort is at the heart of our practice, and men, trans and LGBTQ+ patients are welcome, too. Your identity, body and story deserve respect.

Why “Monarch”

Change has its own rhythm.

The monarch reminds us that change is deeply personal. It asks for patience, the right conditions and room to unfold. We bring that same humility to care: listening closely, offering support, and honoring a journey that belongs to you.

Care in relationship

Room for more than one perspective.

No one practitioner has every answer. When another perspective would serve you, Dr. Kara can connect you with trusted practitioners across Portland.
